Entering grades: 2-3
Mini Camp is a 3-day/2-night overnight camp experience for campers going into 2nd or 3rd grade. Mini campers will live in the two largest Village cabins with their counselors and operate on their own schedule, participating in water games, arts & crafts, Bible study, and more!
An overnight camp experience can be hugely beneficial to children’s overall development. Benefits include:
Social and Emotional Growth: Overnight camps provide a unique opportunity for children to develop essential social and emotional skills. Through shared experiences, teamwork, and cooperation, campers learn to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and build lasting relationships. They also learn to be more independent as they navigate new environments and make decisions away from their parents.
Outdoor Exploration and Physical Activity: Camp Shalom is a beautiful property on the Maquoketa River. Campers spend 90% of the camp day outdoors breathing fresh air, being active, and developing a greater appreciation for God’s creation. Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress, improve concentration, and increase creativity. It also encourages physical fitness and an appreciation for the environment, fostering a lifelong connection to the natural world.
Skill Development: We provide an environment where children can explore and develop new skills. They participate in a range of activities that help them discover their interests and talents while also building self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment. Learning new skills in a supportive and encouraging environment promotes resilience and a willingness to embrace challenges.
Appreciation of Culture and Diversity: Camp Shalom brings together a diverse group of children from different backgrounds. We foster an environment of radical inclusion where campers are encouraged to be themselves. Camp is a place where youth can learn about and appreciate different perspectives and traditions. Our staff promote a culture of empathy and respect, which prepares children to be compassionate and open-minded individuals.
