Good News: Our seasonal staff deserve a new place to sleep and recuperate. The original summer staff house was built in 1976 and no longer exists. Retreat housing options have been limited for decades. A new, three-story lodging facility has been framed, roofed, sided, and roughed-in (utilities). After several delays due to leadership transitions and external agency processes, we are back to completing the interior: four bedrooms, two restrooms with showers, one meeting space, and a secondary storm shelter. (The old seasonal staff house was one story, summer-only, and had become an unofficial “nature center” with small wildlife inhabiting it. The Program Center basement is still the most centralized storm shelter on site.)
Great News: The original intent to include a permanent health care center in this building has been modified. To provide a more centralized location for the health care needs of campers and guests, the permanent location will now be in the northwest corner of the Program Center. Existing storage space is being repurposed as the new health care center, with room for two isolation beds, helping Camp Shalom better comply with American Camping Association accreditation standards.
Even Greater News: We’ve received a $75,000 matching gift to help us complete our open capital campaign projects!! Every dollar you give will be doubled through this matching grant. This will help us complete the new Seasonal Staff & Retreat Housing, the permanent infirmary, and the replacement of subflooring and flooring under an upgraded commercial dishwasher.
There’s a place for everyone to serve! Whether you enjoy outdoor projects, indoor tasks, or a mix of both, your time helps get camp ready for campers all year long. From clearing trails and prepping cabins to organizing supplies and small repair work, every act of service helps ministry happen. Come lend a hand, enjoy God’s creation, and be part of what makes Camp Shalom special!

Here’s how:
- Donors receive a thank you from Camp Shalom and an acknowledgement from Birdies!
Annually, approximately $10,000 is donated to Camp Shalom through the Birdies for Charity program. Then Camp Shalom receives a second check for 5-10% of that year’s total, depending on the size of the Birdies’ Bonus Program Fund, which can also be contributed to by donors.
